Super Massive, the developer behind the PlayStation exclusiveUntil Dawn, The Quarry, and theDark Pictures Anthologyseries, has reportedly canceled aBlade Runnergame.
Super Massive’s latest release wasThe Casting of Frank Stone,a narrative-horror game set in theDead by Daylightuniverse. It released to middling reviews, sitting at a68 on Metacriticfor the PS5 version.

Supermassive Games also has another game set to release later in 2025,Directive 8020,the next entry in theDark Picturesseries, featuring more action and a sci-fi setting, which sounds pretty similar to the pitch for aBlade Runnergame that the company had apparently been working on.
It Could Have Been an Awesome Blade Runner Game
According to a report fromInsider Gaming, theBlade Runnergame by Supermassive Games was set around you being the only remaining Blade Runner in the year 2065. It would have been about 10 to 12 hours long, blending the philosophical narrative ofBlade Runnerwith “kinetic action-adventure gameplay.”
The project entered pre-production in September 2024, helmed by the team that madeThe Quarry.Apparently, the game was aiming for a 2027 release, but late last year Alcon Entertainment, the owner of theBlade Runnerrights, canceled the project for unknown reasons.
While the game being canceled might suggest otherwise, according to the report, the game looked pretty good. It featured stealth, action, exploration, and investigation, blending the harsh world ofBlade Runnerwith a central mystery for you to uncover. This information comes from people familiar with the project who likely worked on it, so it isn’t surprising that the game sounds good.
It’s unclear at this point what that team at Supermassive Games has moved onto since, but Supermassive is still set to releaseDirective 8020later this year.
Amazon is currently producing aBlade Runner 2099television series, so it seems as though the owners are willing to make new entries in the franchise, just not the game being developed by Supermassive Games.
