A newDOOMre-release from Limited Run Games comes in a box that can run DOOM. Available for $666 on April 18th, the box set is limited to 666 units, so you’ll need to wake up early if you’re willing to blow the big bucks on what is essentially a collectable meme.
The newDOOM + DOOM II: Will It Run Editioncontains physical versions of the first two DOOM games, plus a handheld Cacodemon that can run DOOM, a magnetized floating Cacodemon figurine, some trading cards, four cassette tapes featuring the DOOM soundtrack, and the aforementioned box that plays DOOM.

Customers can choose from Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox, and PC versions of the box set, all of which include some bonus games—TNT: Evilution,The Plutonia Experiment,No Rest for the Living,Sigil,Sigil II,DOOM II Master Levels, 25 new Doom deathmatch maps, andLegacy of Rust(a DOOM expansion that came out in 2024).
For those who don’t want to blow a fortune on the Will It Run Doom box, Limited Run Games will also sell slimmed-downBig Box EditionandStandard Editionversions of this set. But you gotta spend $666 if you want a box that runs DOOM—the other sets don’t come with the cool box or the handheld Cacodemon toy.
Unfortunately, Limited Run Games hasn’t shared any high-res images or videos of the Will It Run Doom box. We also don’t know the specs of the box, though it appears to run the original version of DOOM (rather than a remaster) and probably runs on an SBC (that said, the box seems to contain a relatively large motherboard). It doesn’t have an integrated controller, so you’ll need to plug one in via USB. You could throw together something similar for far less than $666 if you really wanted to.
“Can it run DOOM” is a well-established meme and a common challenge for computer nerds. Within the last year or so, we’ve seen DOOM run onWord documents,PDFs,pinball machines, andNintendo alarm clocks. Biotech researchers are trying to play DOOM ona bunch of rat neurons in a jar, and machine learning experts have found a way tomake AI hallucinate a playable DOOM.
Limited Run Games' new DOOM-in-a-box is probably the most self-referential DOOM release we’ve ever gotten, but it’s a pretty mild take on the DOOM meme, all things considered. The $666 price tag is arguably more shocking than anything included in this box set.
you’re able to buy the DOOM + DOOM II: Will It Run Edition box on April 18th at 10AM ET. It’s available for the Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox, and PC. Again, the box set costs $666 and is limited to 666 units.
