Summary

The ink is dry, the papers are signed, and T-Mobile is officially the proud owner of UScellular. The acquisition thatstarted over a year agois now complete. Over four million new customers are coming to the Magenta side, and if you’re one of them, you might be wondering what that means for you.

For now, current UScellular customers are pretty much staying put. Your plan and your device will continue working as they have been. You won’t be forced to change anything right away. But you may look forward to a few things starting now and in the coming weeks.

First, your network should see some noticeable improvements. It’s likely you’ll see faster speeds and a more reliable connection as you’re no longer limited by UScellular’s footprint. In the coming months, your service will transition to T-Mobile’s integrated network, meaning you’ll get a more powerful and seamless experience.

USCellular customers will eventually have the option to switch to a T-Mobile plan. If you do, you’ll get access to all the perks that T-Mobile offers. You’ll get free streaming on things like Netflix and Apple TV+, free international roaming in over 215 countries, and in-flight Wi-Fi, among other benefits. Plus, you’ll have more options for plans, includingthe new prepaid plansand specific plans for seniors, first responders, and teachers.

Current T-Mobile customers, even those who live in an area that UScellular didn’t cover, may still benefit from the acquisition. T-Mobile says that with the combined footprint, its customers will get enhanced coverage in parts of the country where UScellular had a stronger presence.

The UScellular brand will eventually be phased out, but there’s no specific timeline. You can expect to see more of T-Mobile’s retail stores and improved customer support in the newly acquired areas. Not that long ago, the US market had AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, UScellular, and Verizon as the five main carriers. Now we’re down to just three.
