Sling TV debuted back in 2015 as one of the first live TV streaming services for $20 a month. Obviously, times have changed, competition is stiff, and every service has increased prices yearly for what seems like a decade. In a bold move to return to its roots, Sling TV is now offering a “Sling Select” bundle starting at $20.

These days, we’re all frustrated with price hikes, additional subscription tiers, and ads on everything. Sling TV is quickly realizing that people don’t want to deal with that anymore. Earlier this month, the company unveilednew $5 day passes for streaming TV, and now they’ve announced a similarly affordable option.

While that sounds exciting at first, temper your expectations because it’s not a full-fledged streaming package. The new Sling Select bundle only offers 11 channels, but they’re pretty popular, and it’ll cost you $19.99. If you want a few extra channels, like sports or local stations, that’ll also cost you a few more dollars.

Sling says this new skinny bundle delivers premium entertainment, sports, movies, and more, all at a wallet-friendly price. Honestly, considering the original 2015 version had 12 channels, and this one has 11, it sounds pretty decent. So, what does your $20 a month get you?

By signing up for a new Sling Select bundle, you’ll get access to FS1, FX, and Fox News along with Nat Geo, NFL Network, Lifetime, Game Show Network, MeTV, Vice, and a few others I’ve never heard of. During the announcement, the company mentioned “select 4K content” too, including specific sporting events, NASCAR, and Fox local stations.

This new Sling Select plan sounds pretty lucrative, but it’s missing some key channels. The company knows this, which is why you may take advantage of its readily available add-on packages.

Its lower price comes with a more limited channel selection, but it offers everything you’ll need, from sports to movies and more.

Sling Select will let you get some of those important channels like local ABC, NBC, or Fox, in select markets, for an extra $5 or so. That extra charge only gets you one or two channels, depending on your region, or you can pay $10 for all three. As a result, this skinny bundle goes up to $30 per month, which is still fairly reasonable given today’s streaming landscape.

Additionally, Sling TV offers a wide range of additional content for its regular (and more expensive) Sling Blue and Sling Orange plans. If you’re interested, Sling’s existing menu ofextras add-onsare all available with the Select package.

For comparison, Sling’s usual packages range anywhere from $45.99 and above, before add-ons. So, by reintroducing this more affordable package, the company is doubling down on attracting cord-cutters or those looking for a cheaper way to enjoy live TV.
