Picking the right mechanical keyboard isn’t easy, especially with all these Prime Day deals flying around. But if you’ll give me just a few minutes of your time, I’ll show you why this amazing, budget-friendly board has become my absolute favorite.

The Ajazz AK820 Pro Overview

Ajazz AK820 Pro

The Ajazz AK820 Pro is a gasket-mounted mechanical keyboard with pre-lubed switches and PBT keycaps. It supports 2.4GHz, Bluetooth, and wired modes, and it has a built-in TFT screen that can display GIFs.

TheAjazz AK820 Pro(also sold under names like Epomaker and Attack Shark) is a 75% OEM keyboard with multiple aliases, but it’s one of those rare budget-friendly gems that surprises you with how high-quality it feels, especially for the low price.

For starters, it’sgasket-mountedandhot-swappable, two features that aren’t all that common at this price point. It also features a configurable TFT screen, is compatible with Windows and macOS, supports wired, Bluetooth, and 2.4GHz wireless (via the included dongle), and uses south-facing RGB backlighting. There’s also a high-quality volume knob that clicks to mute.

The AK820 Pro comes in two colorways: a sleek dual-gray with yellow accents, and a white, purple, and light blue combo. It’s also available with two types of pre-lubed linear switches: Flying Fish (lighter) and Gift (heavier and bouncier).

In addition to the gasket mount, the AK820 Pro uses a flex-cut PCB, a silicone mat that adds heft and dampening, and multiple layers of foam that make the keyboard feel like it was tuned by a sound engineer for maximum typing satisfaction. (I’m not even exaggerating; this budget keyboard has no business sounding this good.)

What Makes It My Favorite Mechanical Keyboard

I’ve tried a lot of differentswitch and keycap configurationson this keyboard, and it handled everything I threw at it without any problems. That’s one of the joys ofcustom mechanical keyboards.

However, even though this one is hot-swappable, you don’t need to swap anything to enjoy a fantastic typing experience. Mine ismostly stock, which speaks volumes about the build quality and the thoughtful sound tuning that went into this gasket-mounted board. (If you’re wondering, I’m currently usingAkko Draculaswitches.)

Akko Dracula

The Akko Dracula switches are ultra-smooth, light linear switches made from a new material called “POK.” These fantastic switches are quite affordable and use an MX-style structure, so you can use them with any keycap set and hot-swappable keyboard.

The stock PBT keycaps are excellent—quite frankly, they feel and sound better than thecheap Temu setI’m using now. And despite the silly name, the stock Flying Fish (and also “Gift”) switches that come with the board are super smooth with their “marbly” sound and are nothing short of amazing. I still remember upgrading from my trusty old Corsair K70 with brown switches to the AK820 Pro—it was an eye-opening experience that made me fall even deeper into the mechanical keyboard rabbit hole.

The RGB lighting is fantastic, and the board works withSignalRGB(my RGB-syncing software of choice) when used inwired mode(which is how I use it most of the time).

Still, what absolutely sold me on this keyboard is the satisfying volume knob that makes me feel like a DJ, and the customizable high-resolutionTFT screen. I know it’s a silly little gimmick that doesn’t change the typing experience much, but I can’t stop staring at whatever colorful GIF I’ve got playing while taking a breather from writing How-To Geek articles.

Get It Now for Just $48 This Prime Day

The Ajazz AK820 Pro normally retails for $68.99 on Amazon and other sites, and while you’re able to find it on sale sometimes on sites like Temu and the officialEpomakerandAjazzstores, I’ve never seen it this cheap. I paid around $62 for it on Temu, so even compared to that price, $48 feels like a steal.

It punches well above its weight class, and if you prefer the soft, cushioned feel of a plastic keyboard over that of aluminum keyboards, this is one of the best typing experiences $50 can get you.

Note that the AK820 Pro should not be confused with the regularAjazz AK820(which I also own). While they share many similarities, the non-Pro version is wired only, lacks a screen, and offers different switch options.

Additionally, depending on the specific model, it features either north-facing white-only backlighting or south-facing RGB lighting like the Pro. If you don’t need wireless connectivity or the screen, the non-Pro is still an excellent and even more budget-friendly choice. However, I personally prefer the feel and sound of the Flying Fish switches on the Pro over the red clones and tactile yellow switches found on the two non-Pro versions I’ve tested.
