GPD, the company behind many compact and handheld PCs, just launched the Micro PC 2. It’s a cross between a netbook and a handheld gaming console, and you can pre-order it now on Indiegogo with an estimated shipping date of September 2025.

The MicroPC 2 is a palmtop computer, meaning you’re able to hold it in both hands and type with two fingers on its QWERTY keyboard. It also has a 7-inch FHD touchscreen that can twist and fold over the keyboard, turning it into a tablet when needed. The team has already reached the Indiegogo goal, but you can still back itto get your own unit.

This new model is the direct follow-up to the original GPD MicroPC, which came out in 2019. Like its predecessor, the MicroPC 2 is built for IT professionals and others who need a flexible palmtop computer with lots of connectivity. The improvements in this version are big. It has a larger screen than the first model, and both memory and storage speeds are much faster, making the whole system more responsive. Thanks to a major processor upgrade, the GPD MicroPC 2 is up to five times faster than the first version, a huge jump in power for a device this small.

It runs on an Intel N250 Alder Lake-N processor, giving the palmtop strong performance for its size. It comes with 16GB of fast LPDDR5-4800 memory and a 512GB PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD, which means quick data handling and plenty of storage for different tasks. Beyond its main specs, the GPD MicroPC 2 has extra features to improve usability and security. It has a backlit thumb keyboard, so you can type in low light. There’s also a fingerprint sensor built into the power button on the side, making it easy and secure to unlock.

The battery has also been upgraded to 27.5 Wh, up from the original’s 23.6 Wh, so it should last longer. While the GPD MicroPC 2 is a little bigger than the original, it’s still very portable. It measures 171.2 x 110.8 x 23.5mm and weighs 490 grams. This makes the palmtop much smaller and cheaper than the GPD Pocket 4, which is more of a general-purpose mini laptop. The MicroPC 2 is not meant to be a full mini-laptop but rather a super-portable device with lots of connections, making it perfect for certain professional uses.

Despite its small size, the device includes many full-sized ports, such as a 2.5 GbE Ethernet port and an HDMI 2.1 port. For connecting to other devices, it has two full-function USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C ports, which support 10 Gbps data transfer, charging, and video output. It also has two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, adding even more options for peripherals.

If youpledge at least $495, then you’ll get a GPD MicroPC 2 that will start shipping in September of this year. Make sure to hurry, because 131 units have already been claimed of the 300 available.
