Price and Availability

The Govee Table Lamp 2 Pro with Sound by JBL is available on the official Govee website for $180, though it can also be found on Amazon for the same price. There are no special accessories or modifications you can make to the product when ordering it. It comes with no special accessories other than a charger. Do not confuse this product with the regular Govee Table Lamp 2, which does not come with a speaker like this one does.

A Powerful Speaker With Excellent Sound in a Small Package

The main selling point of this particular table lamp from Govee is that it comes with a speaker, as opposed to the normal model that does not. I was a little skeptical about the sound quality of a relatively small speaker sharing space with a lamp, but not only did the 2.5-inch 500cc full-range JBL speaker not disappoint me, it downright impressed me. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised, since JBL made some ofthe best speakers of 2024.

Despite its compact design, this speaker packs a serious punch, with an ear-rupturing max volume, deep, punchy bass, and an advanced equalizer that promotes crisp and stunning clarity of sound no matter what you’re listening to. I don’t want to understate the surprising amount of power packed into this little thing; at max volume, the thunderclap of a white noise soundtrack rattles nearby windows almost as much as the real deal.

While I’m sure there are somehardcore audiophilesout there who wouldn’t agree, the JBL speaker in this Govee lamp could easily provide high-quality tunes for an entire house party by itself. If I’m being honest with you, I rarely had the volume turned up over 40% in regular everyday use, because even at half of its full power, the speaker delivers some serious volume, and I value my long-term hearing.

At any rate, if you’re looking at this product primarily for the speaker, I can attest that it punches way above its weight, whether it’s blasting a complex rhythm or filling the room with the layered, detailed sounds of a white noise jungle or any of the other several dozen white noise options the lamp comes with. Granted, if you just want a speaker, you’d probably be better off buying a dedicated one and not a lamp-hybrid, but this Govee table lamp does not disappoint.

Dynamic Light With Thousands of Customization Options

The speaker on the Govee Table Lamp 2 Pro with Sound by JBL is very impressive, but the other half of the product is the lighting, and it needs to be just as impressive. Thankfully, this little guy delivers on that front too, really blowing some of the competition out of the water with the sheer variety of light and color options available. There are several dozen preset light and color “scenes” you can choose from, based on holidays, weather, emotions, fun patterns, and more.

But the really impressive aspect of the lamp is just how much freedom you have in making your own light and color patterns. Not long ago, I reviewed someWiZ light products, and one of the things that annoyed me the most about the otherwise pretty good lights was how limited the customization was. You were allowed to use an RGB color selector or input hex codes to get any single color you wanted, but you weren’t able to make your own light and color patterns.

The Govee Table Lamp 2 Pro with Sound by JBL has so many different ways to create your own displays. you may provide the app with a picture, and it’ll use the colors from the picture for a light scene. You can ask an AI in the app to generate a color scheme based on whatever idea you present to it. You can create a pattern out of the many effects the lamp already has, such as flames, gradients, ripples, breathing, and much more. You can even sketch out a design with your finger and have it show on the display instead.

For all of these options, you can choose not only the color of each individual element, but how fast the elements move and which direction the pattern will move around the lamp. You can even choose which white noise preset plays with the color and pattern you’ve designed. This means you can truly make tens of thousands of unique combinations of patterns, effects, colors, and sounds with this lamp, and you can save your many creations so you can pick between them at any time.

And of course, you can set all of these many scenes, preset or otherwise, on timers and schedules so they play at specified times. The lamp itself can also be set up to provide light or sound in conjunction with other Govee lights, allowing you to create a room-wide ambiance of any variety. Needless to say, you have the freedom to make this lamp fit in any room with any aesthetic.

An Extensive Battery Life Allows for Portable Fun

I primarily used the Govee Table Lamp 2 Pro with Sound by JBL as an actual table lamp, plugged into a wall in my bedroom and generally playing a variety of white noise patterns while I slept. But this model is fairly portable, being small enough to take around on a road trip, out to a picnic, or anywhere else where it might not be able to get a constant charge. In that scenario, you’ll have to rely on the product’s 5200mAh battery, which offers around 4.5 hours of light and sound on one charge.

Granted, that battery life requires that you keep the product at 50% brightness and 50% volume. If you crank it higher than that, it’ll drain faster. But at the same time, if you lower the brightness or volume (or turn one of them off completely), you can extend the battery life as well. I managed to get at least 6 hours out of it one time while sitting on my porch, and I’m sure I could have squeezed out even more juice if I’d lowered the light and volume even further.

An Intuitive App That’s Easy to Navigate and Set Up

Finally, the app required to control the lamp, Govee Home,is very easy to set up and use. The initial setup is as easy as turning the lamp on and connecting your phone to it via Bluetooth just once. After that, you won’t need Bluetooth on to make changes, you’ll just need to be fairly close to the lamp.

The app itself gives you a walk-through of its basic features as soon as you open it, and there are obvious tabs with clear icons that make it easy to see where you are going and what you’re doing. I never had to spend more than a few seconds trying to figure out how to do what I wanted or get to the options I was looking for. While it’s a small thing overall, having an app that makes it easy to get what you want done goes a long way.

Should You Buy the Govee Table Lamp 2 Pro With Sound by JBL?

Assuming you’re actually interested in both halves of what this lamp has to offer, then yes, I absolutely recommend buying it. This only really applies if you want both of its functions, though. If you just want a speaker without lights, or some sort of ambient light without sound, there’s no reason to spend $180 on theGovee Table Lamp 2 Pro with Sound by JBL.

But if that combination is exactly what you want, then it would be $180 well-spent. I cannot find any issue with this Govee product. It does exactly what it’s advertised to do, and it does it very well. The speaker is excellent, the lights are bright, dynamic, and super customizable, and the battery life for this type of thing is very good. At this price point, it’s definitely one of the best options for a speaker-lamp combo.
