Summary
Many believe Samsung has perfected the foldable format at long last with the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Google’s Pixel foldables are in their infancy, but like Samsung’s, they keep getting better every year. Now, Google’s best shot at a foldable is finally here: meet the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
Google has finally unveiled the Pixel 10 Pro Fold during its Made by Google hardware event. It was unveiled right alongside the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL, and like those phones, this one is also packed with most of the same improvements. At the heart of the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is the all-new Google Tensor G5 chip, which Google says is a massive jump from its predecessor.

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is a pretty nice upgrade from its direct predecessor, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. While retaining an almost identical exterior design (Google didn’t bother to do any design changes this year for the whole Pixel 10 line, and this is also true for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold), Google has reduced the borders and bezels of the outer panel, allowing for an ever-so-slightly larger 6.4-inch display on the exterior.
This outer screen is also 11% brighter than the previous model, reaching a peak brightness of 3,000 nits for improved outdoor visibility. When unfolded, the device reveals its massive 8-inch display, which is unchanged from last year.
For the first time, the Pixel Fold line achieves an IP68 rating, which means you get protection against both water and dust ingress. For context, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold had IPX8 certification, which means it was only certified for its water resistance. This is huge for a foldable. The fact that we have so many moving parts, as well as a hinge, makes full dust and water resistance a challenge. The best a foldable has done until this point has been the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which has an IP48 certification. This is better, and a huge feat.
This might also be partly thanks to its redesigned hinge. Like any respectable foldable maker, Google is doing hinge redesigns every so often, and for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, the hinge mechanism has been reworked. The new Pixel Fold has a new gearless, high-strength system constructed from spacecraft-grade materials, which the company claims is engineered for over a decade of regular use. The battery is also getting an upgrade from the previous 4,650 mAh cell to a slightly bigger 5,015 mAh one, which might just be enough extra juice to get you through the day better.
Some things are staying the same. The rear camera setup includes a 48 MP wide-angle primary camera, a 5x optical telephoto lens that can achieve up to 20x Super Res Zoom, and an ultrawide lens that doubles for Macro Focus shots. It seems identical to the setup we got with the Pixel 9 Pro Fold (though Google is saying it’s “upgraded”), and while that’s not bad, it’s still a bit of a bummer considering how it’s still worse than the camera you get in the Pixel 10 Pro. The device comes equipped with a substantial 16 GB of RAM, which is the same we got last generation, though it’s still plenty.
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is now available for pre-order on the Google Store for $1,800. It’s the same price as last year, and it actually undercuts the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which is $2,000. You canvisit the Google Storeif you’re interested, and it should appear at carriers and other retailers soon.
Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold
The latest entry in Google’s foldable line is bigger than ever with an 8-inch screen. Google also promises that the 10 Pro Fold can last up to 10 years worth of folding and unfolding, so this foldable can be an investment.
