Elgato just released the Game Capture 4K S. This is a brand-new external capture card that’s perfect for anyone looking to stream or record their gameplay from Mac, PC, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox, or other HDMI-compatible device.
One of the coolest things about this new capture card is its capture speed while continuing to show gameplay at a good quality. you may record in 4K60 quality with zero-latency passthrough and an incredibly low preview delay, as little as 30ms. If you’re into competitive titles, you’ll be happy to know it also supports high frame-rate capture, up to 1440p120 and 1080p240, for super-smooth, high-speed gameplay.

This is a big improvement over the older HD60 X, which only supported 4K at 30fps capture. This high-performance still comes in a compact USB-C form factor, making it accessible to many devices. If you’ve ever used an Elgato before, the hookup looks exactly like what you’d expect. It has two ports for the HDMIs, and there’s a port for a USB-C, so setup should be as easy as it usually is.
The capture card has HDR10 passthrough up to 4K60, HDR10 capture up to 1080p60, VRR support, and even analog audio input. It’s widely compatible too, being plug-and-play with Windows 11, macOS 13, and iPadOS 18. This means it works seamlessly with popular streaming software like OBS, Streamlabs, Zoom, and TikTok Live Studio.
Elgato has also made a new Elgato Studio App, which gives you a low-latency preview, minimal system load, and handy tools like a snapshot feature for social media and creating thumbnails. The app has even been redesigned to better match Windows 11’s UI and works on Windows on Arm devices.
This new capture card from Elgato is a lot less expensive than the pricierHDMI 2.1 capture cardsthe company released last year, which were over $200 for 4K at 60fps and HDR capture. It’s only $30 more thanElgato’s Neo game capture card, which can’t even capture gameplay in 4K at 60fps. So this is a great deal for a high-quality capture card.
I haven’t had the best experience with Elgato when it comes to cheaper capture cards, but the lower price is just a benefit to buyers in this case. The capture card looks like it’s a high-quality purchase, and with the promise of 4k 60fps, it’s hard to deny it’s worth every penny.
The Game Capture 4K S is available now on theElgato webstore for $160. It even comes with a two-year warranty and CORSAIR global support.
